The incident was first reported by Deseret News after the man, identified as 61-year-old Douglas Harold Green, was charged on Monday in the 4th District Court in Wasatch County. The charges filed against Green include a third-degree felony count of aggravated kidnapping to commit unlawful detention and an assault charge, the paper reported. A police affidavit from the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office obtained by Deseret News said Green and his wife were at the Provo River Resort when the incident occurred....

Chia Yong-Quan, 38, pleaded guilty to one count under the Animals and Birds Act of wantonly omitting to stop his cousin, Clement Chia Tian Xiang, from torturing a 4-year-old brown toy poodle. He was fined $3,326 (S$4,500) by a court in Singapore on Thursday, July 8, and banned from owning an animal for a year, according to Channel News Asia. Yong-Quan faced the possibility of being jailed for up to 18 months and fined up to $11,088 (S$15,000) for wantonly omitting to stop the abuse, but the prosecution did not push for jail time....

Don Weerakoon, 30, was sentenced to 10 years in jail after he admitted to carrying out a botched hostage attempt against his victim in Cambridge, U.K., on February 18. Weerakoon had offered his housemate Isabel Fuentes Barriga a lift to work on the morning in question. After he started driving, he locked the car doors and pulled over. The defendant became hostile after wrongly suspecting Barriga and her partner of stealing “significant sums of money” from him, reports the BBC....

Joseph Deluca, 54, was sentenced on Tuesday after he admitted to assaulting the McDonald’s employee. He also admitted to assaulting a co-worker in a separate incident, the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office said. Deluca pleaded guilty to felonious assault for the incident in February involving the McDonald’s employee and was sentenced to three years. He also pleaded guilty to aggravated assault for the attack on his co-worker and was sentenced to 18 months in prison, to be served concurrently....

The Los Angeles Times reported that William Gonzalez, 22, underwent extensive reconstructive surgery after a hard-foam projectile fired by police struck him in the right eye, shattering the socket, in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday night. Doctors told the newspaper that the projectile “exploded” Gonzalez’s eyeball and he will never see out of it again. Dr. David Samimi, one of the doctors who operated on Gonzalez at California Hospital Medical Center, said “the best-case scenario” would be that Gonzalez gets to keep the eye in his head without any sight....

Christopher Henderson, 46, was convicted in July of multiple counts of capital murder for the killings of his estranged wife, her unborn daughter, her son, her nephew and her mother six years ago. Henderson was given the death penalty, although news outlets reported he could have been sentenced to life without parole. In court, Henderson addressed the victims’ relatives and his own family, apologizing for what happened. “I’d like to give my deepest apologies to the family,” Henderson said....

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LACSD) said in a Nixle notification that its homicide detectives were at a house in the 3900 block of West 118th Street following a shooting at about 11:50 p.m. on Monday. There they assisted Hawthorne Police Department officers and found an adult dead at the scene.
